ABOUT US

Everyone is welcome at our church.

We are always happy to have visitors, and we encourage children of all ages to come too. There is no need to dress up or do anything special to come to our meetings; we would love to see you!

Our Pastor uses the English Standard Version of the Bible to preach from. We usually follow a sermon series, often working through a book of the Bible. This enables us to get a good grounding of every part of the Bible and not just the famous verses.

Our church has a core group of members who are baptised believers. Although there is no obligation to become a member, we believe that this step of committing to a church is beneficial to everyone.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

This is a summary of our beliefs (for a more detailed statement see the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith)

1.   The Bible, both the Old and the New Testament is God’s word; as such it is free from error and is the only and all-sufficient authority in every matter of Christian faith and practice.  (2 Timothy 3:16)

2.   Almighty God subsists in the Trinity of three co-equal and

co-eternal Persons - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19)

3.   The first man, Adam, rebelled against God, sinned. Because of this all his descendants are by nature sinful; unwilling and unable to please God. (Romans 5:12) All humans need to be re-born by the Holy Spirit before they can exercise faith in Jesus Christ.  (John 3:7)

4.   God loved the world and gave the Lord Jesus Christ who is both God the Son and a perfect man. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, was crucified, died and was buried. He came back to life in his physical body and has ascended into heaven. (Luke 24:39) (Acts 1:11) (John 3:16) Jesus is now in the presence of the Father interceding on behalf of all who come to God through him. (Romans 8:34) (Hebrews 7:25)

5.   Jesus lived a perfect human life and was personally sinless, pleasing to God in every way. He took responsibility for the sins of all who believe in him. He died as our substitute and paid in full the demands of God’s justice by the sacrifice of himself on the cross. By God’s grace we are saved from our sins and given Jesus’ perfect righteousness, solely through faith in Jesus’ sacrifice. (Ephesians 2:8)

6.   The Lord Jesus Christ will return and all the dead will return to life and, after judgement, those who have not been saved by Jesus will go to everlasting punishment and those he has saved to eternal life. (John 5:28-29)

7.   A follower of Jesus will live a life that reflects the character of the Lord Jesus in obedience to God and brotherly love for the church, and love for all people. (Galatians 5:19-24)

(1Corinthians 6:9-10) (John 14:15)

8.   We believe that God created the universe and everything in it. He created male and female in his own image. (Genesis 1:27) God instituted marriage, the lifelong union of one man with one woman, for companionship and begetting of children. Marriage, as God ordained it, is the only context for sexual relationships and the begetting of children. (Matthew 19:5-6) (Hebrews 13:4)

9.   Jesus commanded, all believers in him to be baptised. (Matthew 28:19)

We believe this to mean full immersion symbolising our union with Christ in his death and resurrection  (Colossians 2:12)  and also the washing away of sin  (Acts 22:16)

  1. 10.   Jesus commanded his followers to proclaim worldwide the good news that by nature all people are sinful but those who repent and have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ will be forgiven and made children of God and heirs of heaven. (Galatians 3:26)

11.   We believe that God has unconditionally chosen to save through Jesus Christ an innumerable multitude from every nation, tribe, people and language (Revelation 7:9) (Ephesians 1:4)
