Our God is the good shepherd: he provides green and luscious pasture and rest, he makes sure that we are safe and he himself is our peace and comfort; he guides us to springs of living water, quenches our thirst and restores our souls. His goodness and mercy pursue us determinedly.
Our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, tends his flock and feeds his sheep. He strengthens the weak, heals the sick and attends to the injured.
The Lord, our shepherd, leads his sheep in the right way and he is always with them. They hear his voice and know him, and when he calls them by name they follow him. He leads with persuasiveness and gentleness, carrying the lambs and gently leading the nursing ewes.
When the shepherd was stricken the sheep were scattered – the sheep go astray but he seeks those that are lost. He takes the punishment deserved by the sheep, even laying down his life for them and gathers them in his arms and brings them back. He returns carrying them on his shoulders, rejoicing. None are missing from his fold.
